I Made It!

After a year and a few months of anticipating this day, it is finally here! I have made it to Cape Town, South Africa.

I left the Indianapolis airport at 2:24 PM on January 27th and arrived in Cape Town at 8:00 PM on January 28th. Cape Town is 7 hours ahead of Indiana's Eastern time zone.

After a quick stopover at Washington Dulles it was a 14.5 hour flight to Johannesburg and then after a tricky maze through customs, and departures at the Joburg airport, it was onto Cape Town.

I was met by Rotarians Trevor Wilkins and John Powell, who have been a great help to me. John and his wife Kay are my host family while I'm here.

Right there at the Cape Town airport was Desmond Tutu! My first famous South African sighting!

When we walked outside, I noticed the strong winds, which John told me were mild. These winds are referred to as the "Cape Doctor". But the temperature feels comfy....should make for good sleeping tonight.

Tomorrow I will get started on my list of things, including setting up a bank account, looking for a place to stay, and the list goes on.

I just want to say a big "THANK YOU" to everyone who helped me get here. From Rotary, to my friends and family.

I think I will sign off for now and get some rest.

We are sooo glad you made it in safely and to good company. Tate and Maren had you in their prayers for your safe flight.

I had been checking my email and had called Mom to see if you had made it safely. She called this morning with your email and pathetically she had to help me get to your blog. That's Right...score for Mom and her computer wizardry.

Good Morning: I had been worrying what you had been eating, and if you were hungry not finding any good food. Thank God for the ostrich. Sounds like all is going well, am so happy. I miss our talks but this is cheaper, and great to beable to keep in touch someway.Painted the bedroom for 2 days, and I am so sore, these old joints are giving me fits this morning, so I`m up with you on my mind. Hope all is going good for you. Sounds like you have a great host family. Give them my thanks for taking good care of you.
Have a grat weekend. Love and miss you.
MOM & DAD PS. Little Bill said to tell you he missed getting to hear you sing and taking a boat ride, by the way Roy and Bill Jr have become buddies. Roy went with him and Jerry on the scooters to Mr Dora for hot dogs and watched the girls. Roy is thinking about getting him a scooter now. I think that is great.Ha!
